Recently I was able to interview up and coming artist Kayla Woodson! she was such a great interviewee! check out the interview below!
1 Tell me about yourself (where you’re from, how old you are etc.)
“I’m Kayla Woodson! I’m 23 years old and I’m originally from Waggaman, LA though I’ve been living in Nashville, TN for the past 5 years. I’ve been singing and performing since I was 4 years old and never stopped! My musical roots lie in Country, Rock, and Soul. My influences range from Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder to Journey and Guns ‘N Roses, and country stars like Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood.”
2 “What is one thing you want new listeners to know about you?”
When people listen to my music, I want them to know that every song I write is a part of me. Also, how much I love performing live on stage!
3 What is the story behind your song “ Fan for the Flame”?
“Fan for the Flame is a song I co-wrote with Andrew Peebles. This was my first ever co-write, and I went into it with a partially written song that I had showed him. There was one line in there I had wrote about burning a bridge and fanning a flame. He liked that line and from there we wrote a whole song based off of it. To me, this song is about embracing your own strength and standing up for yourself.”
4 What’s your personal favorite song on your EP?
“Honestly, they’re all like my little babies! I love all of them! For me, each song on the EP shows a side of who I am. You have rocking songs like “Fan for the Flame” and “Tearin Up this Town” that show my sassiness and fun side. Then you’ve got others like “Before It’s Too Late” and “Last” that show my sappy, emotional side. And lastly of course there’s “Crushiń” which shows my lovey dovey side.”
5 Can you tell me about what it’s like to be on America’s Morning Show with Ty Kelly and Chuck and what it’s like to be apart of the 10-minute tune?
“I love doing the 10 minute tunes with Ty, Kelly, & Chuck! Their whole crew is awesome and its always a good time! Those songs are always very fun and challenging, but in a good way!”
6 Cereal then milk or milk than cereal?
“For sure cereal than milk! You don’t know how much milk you need until you see how much cereal you have!”
7 Who is your ideal person to tour with?
“Oh man, that’s a good one! There are so many people I’d love to tour with. For me, I think my number one person would be Shania Twain. I’ve seen her live before and her concert was a blast! I’m all about having some fun!”
8 If you were stuck in an airport with a 3 hr. layover what 1 artist would you want to talk to?
“Definitely Dolly Parton! I would love to hear all of the stories from her long, legendary career!”
9 What was it like to have to spur of the moment opportunity to perform on stage with Lady Antebellum?
“That moment was honestly so surreal! I couldn’t believe that I was up there getting to sing their song with them! Definitely on my list of most exciting things that have ever happened to me!”
10 What has it been like to study at Belmont University?
“Studying at Belmont was an awesome experience! I really got to learn so much about the entertainment industry while being able to pursue my own music career. Belmont has definitely helped me meet people and grow my knowledge of the music business. You should definitely go there!”
11 Do you have a quote or saying you live by?
“When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.” One of my favorites!”
12 If you could only have one artist on your phone who would it be?
“Hmmm…I have so many artists on my phone that it’s so hard to pick just one! It would probably be between Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, and Journey!”
13 What was the first concert you went to?
“Britney Spears! I was like 6 or 7 years old!”
14 If you weren’t pursuing music what would you be doing?
“Music is something that was always inside of me, and something I have always had a passion for! I’ve been singing ever since I could remember. If I wasn’t pursuing a music career, I would have really loved to try to be a radio personality!”
